"Non sunt multiplicanda entia praeter
necessitatem"
'entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity' (i.e. keep it simple)
-William of Ockham-
Of the projects Colorado Digital Labs has been involved with, no two have followed the same development path. Each came with a different set of requirements, specifications and customer expectations that made each design process a unique journey. Our goal is to provide our clients with a design methodology that is tuned to their resources and schedules. We take a best practices approach when creating new engineering guidelines and strive for seamless integration when working with those which are well established. Since many of our customers are small, startup companies without internal engineering departments, Colorado Digital Labs creates a product development framework they can grow into as resources come on line.
Every product development mission requires a unique approach to the structure and methodology required to implement an effective development process. No two products, companies or their development resource capabilities are the same. Each has its own unique set of characteristics, cultures and restrictions that determine the envelope in which the engineering process can take place. Because of this, we strive to implement Concurrent Engineering (CE) and Integrated Product Development (IPD) practices whenever we can to maximize use of available resources and keep development times as short as possible.
Just as a functional specification is needed to document the required operation of a new product, a concurrent development plan needs to be established early to address all of the foreseeable aspects of the product's design and life.
"Benefits of CE and IPD include 30% to 70% less development time, 65% to 90% fewer engineering changes, 20% to 90% less time to market, 200% to 600% higher quality, and 20% to 110% higher white collar productivity." [As reported by the National Institute of Standards & Technology, Thomas Group Inc., and Institute for Defense Analyses in Business Week April 30, 1990]
Colorado Digital Laboratories, Inc. believes that the creation of a sound development framework strategy at the beginning of any new product development effort offers the best solution to optimize schedules and minimize costs later on.Every great product starts with a great plan.
